Hot Water Cylinder Repairs

Not much can go wrong with a hot water cylinder. It is a vessel with a few valves.  The normal working life of a cylinder is a decade to 20 years, however, we have seen cylinders last 40-plus years. When something goes wrong there are often simple fixes to keep your water heater working.

Most common problems for mains pressure cylinders

Cold water expansion valve constantly leaking water.

Element not functioning

Generally a job for an electrician. Time to complete the job one to three hours depending on the set up

Water leaking from base of hot water cylinder

This is usually a terminal problem for your cylinder, which will require a complete change. Depending on the situation of the cylinder and the set up, it can take anywhere from 5 hours to 8 hours to change out.
If the original cylinder is not on a tray, now by law, a cylinder has to be on a tray and have a drain from there. This can be an issue if your cylinder is in the middle of the house.
