How to get instant hot water
Are you tired of waiting for hot water at your taps?
Mostly these issues happen when your bathroom or ensuite is a long way from the hot water source, meaning that a large volume of water is required to pass through the tap before the hot water can reach the fitting.
There are a few ways to work around this.
You can install a ring main.
This is a circuit of hot water that is constantly pumped around the house (in a ring or racetrack) which means that water is near instantaneously hot at your fitting.
The problem is that it's pretty hard to do in a finished house. It is best installed during a renovation or during the building process. If you have an underfloor cavity, there could be an option as long as we can get under all the fittings.
The ring main is often completed in copper with plastic pipes joined where a feed is required.
Another negative is that the pump runs continuously which uses power constantly.
You can install an extra hot water cylinder.
If you can reach the hot water piping, another cylinder will work well when the hot water is split for separate parts of the house. However, hot water cylinders take up space and are reasonably expensive to install.
Install a small instantaneous hot water unit.
Steibel Eltron is one of the manufacturers of a small instantaneous hot water system. This can often fit in a vanity or under the sink bench and can offer instant hot water for hand washing and the like. They can be plugged into a normal power point.
There are a few issues with this option: some units are required to use a special tap, and other units require a place to send expanded water during the heating process.
