Hot Water Cylinder Replacement

It’s finally happened. Your cylinder has given up the goat. You don’t just have hot water cylinder problems, you have a terminal issue. There is no coming back from the wreck that once was your hot water system. This sturdy workhorse has served you without complaint for all these years, but now it’s time to let go and replace it.

What is the cost of replacement?

Depending on your cylinder type and location, the price can vary usually from around $1700 to $5000.  Whether it is low pressure or mains pressure and whether you like to upgrade from low to mains is a consideration for the price. Example pricing here

There have been changes in the requirements for hot water cylinder installs. All indoor cylinders require a safe tray that is connected to the sewer system, or is run outside. This can be a costly exercise, but we have come up with a relatively inexpensive solution to comply with the code.

The position of your cylinder can add some issues, especially when it is in hard to reach areas, or in a small cupboard that needs to be deconstructed to remove it.

All these factors need to be considered before receiving a quote.

Beware

Be wary of vendors that will install an indoors cylinder without a safetray. What will this do to your insurance if you have a non compliant new cylinder installed? What does it say about the vendor that is keen to cut corners?
